Guys winter is coming

It's raining every other day, it drops to 60F during the day (brrrr), and my space heater is running 24/7. Winter at Stanford can be brutal, so treat your feet to some warm, cozy, I'll-beat-the-shit-out-of-you combat boots.

They aren't just for the goth kids anymore. This season, they are cute in addition to bad ass.

Here's the style I own. I love stuffing skinny jeans into them, unlacing them halfway, and walking around like I own the place. Combat boots just boost your self-perceived cool by about 100000%.

TROOPA, by Steve Madden.

Other variations on the theme are more or less masculine. For instance:

Basalt Militaire Boot - Anthropologie

Jenna Disc Lace - Frye

(Personally love the Frye boots... in the description it says these sport "a cascade of hand hammered studs set on round leather punches." And they are "thoroughly distressed by stone pummeling." Talk about classy, paying someone else to thoroughly pummel your shoes with a rock before you wear them. That's probs why they cost >$300.)

XOXO
Andrea

Side note: Because I do love these, I hope they don't blow up the way riding boots did during the winter of 2010-2011. I don't know if y'all remember, but that year when I came back from winter break every (sorority) girl on campus was wearing riding boots. It was an epidemic, guys. Let's hope it never happens again.

Red, black and nude all over

There are certain nights when you want to look more Scarlett Johansson than Jennifer Garner.

For those nights, you'll need:

1) A nude platform heel. Patent, suede, or classic leather -- that's up to you. These 6 inches of heaven are presented by Steve Madden and he calls them Dejavu. Before you unleash your heels upon the world, though, make sure you can walk in them first. You don't want to be that girl.

2) A nude polish. Give yourself a dormroom mani-pedi with a color that matches your skin tone. Brooch the Subject by Essie is a close as it gets for me, but play around with different shades. (Tip: use Seche Vite as your top coat. It makes the color look glossy and bright for days.)

3) A little black dress. This one is a sweetheart mesh insert dress by American Apparel, but any sexy black frock will do. Remember that the key to looking seductive is to dress for your body. Less fabric does not always mean more sexy. Go for something a little outrageous but still flattering and comfortable. Confidence is 90% of pulling off this outfit.

4) A red lipstick. I use Russian Red by Mac. Depending on how bold I want to be, I use it with lipliner or just dab it onto chapsticked lips for a more lip-stained look.

5) Earrings that'll pop. These are from a local boutique called Flying Lizard Designs on Santana Row, but obviously any cute jewelry will do!

Combine 1-5 and conquer. Go gettem ladies :)

Looky what I made!

Clearly I have too much time on my hands...

In case the techie in you is interested, I made it using Gimp which is an open-source (*free*) version of Photoshop.

Pet peeve thursday: Platform flip flops

I've thought a lot about this, people. My conclusion is that people wear platform flip flops in a misguided effort to toe the line between the elegance of high heels and the comfort of flip flops but IT DOESN'T WORK. Pick a side, sister, and deal with it.

Please don't ever be this person:

Or I will have to be this person:

Save a Horse

There's something about a frilly sundress and cowboy boots that makes me crave a small-town summer romance and Taylor Swift.
This pose is uncomfortable for both of us.
Multi-millionaire.

Maybe you just think I'm just looking for an excuse to buy/obsess over more shoes (you're right), but I happen to know that cowboy boots are essential. As essential as a good pair of flats or comfortable nude heels. Unfortunately, I'm dirt poor and cowboy boots are expensive so I'm just going to window-shop and hope that one day I can be as country-chic as Tswift.

I'm a big fan of the snip-toe boots, and I really like embroidered leather. I guess it's just go big or go home for me in the cowboy boots department.

Macie Bean, $199 HERE

And these are even cuter, though I'm not a huge fan of the zipper. The pull-on style seems more classic.

Old Gringo, $540 HERE

These Old Gringo boots are down from $625 to $281 and I think the distressed leather and embroidery is flawless, although the toe might be a little too long for me.

Buy HERE

Alternatively, if you're wanting the cowboy look but you're not so keen to hoedown, consider these:

Found at Anthropologie
for $328 HERE.
To finish off my southern state of mind I'm going to need to find myself some:

Homemade cornbread

Slow-churned peach ice cream.
.....Cowboy hat....
